Skopelos (Aetolian: Σκόπελος) is a municipality and the second-largest metropolitan area, by population, in Aetolia. It is located in the Inachos district, on the northern coast of the NAME Peninsula. To the north is the Gulf of Inachos and the municipality of Port of Skopelos. In the east it is bordered by Bardhikostas and Gamea, in the south by Kastro, Kharitomeni, Simenitiko and Mastro, and the west by Varikon, Asclipio and Yerondomourion.

The city is located around the mouth of the Gulf of Inachos, on flat land straddling the River Parisata. While the central city is focused near the mouth of the Parisata, much of the wider metro is located in the Parisata Valley, which stretches toward Lake Veli. The municipality itself is divided into 5 boroughs (Oropos, Morfi, Central, Amissos and Angelokastro), which are further divided into 28 communes. While the metropolitan area consists of 24 additional municipalities, organised into the Inner ring and Outer ring (Skopelos).

The municipality of Skopelos is administered by the Skopelos Authority at the municipal level. The district body is the government of the Inachos federal district. There is a cooperative metro area wide body, the Skopelos Council, that coordinates efforts between individual municipal authorities and city-wide programs and events.

Bus transport in Skopelos is provided by Skopelos Transport, with a large network of routes connecting the entire metro area. The fleet consists of 340 electric ultra-low-floor trolleybuses and 120 diesel buses. There is an exchange located opposite the Municipal Chambers building in central Skopelos, where passengers can change routes in order to connect to other parts of the city.

The metro network in Skopelos is provided by Skopelos Transport, serving the central city and the inner ring suburban municipalities, as well as Skopelos International Airport. The metro has 7 lines, which fan out from the central station in a radial pattern.
