Matriarch Salome (Kartvelian: მატრიარქის სალომე, matriarkis salome; Micmac: ᏁᏇᏊᏂᏨ ᏌᎶᎺ, Nkekkunit Salome; born Inola Membertou, 14 November 1979) is Matriarch of the Church of Varkana, a title she holds for being the Bishop of The Citadel, in which capacity she is also the absolute sovereign of Armazia.
Born in "Micmac-speaking-place", "New World country", Salome immigrated to Varkana when she was 18 before beginning seminary studies. She was ordained an Armazist priest in 2000, was consecrated in 2002 and created a cardinal in 2004 by Matriarch Miranda V. Following the death of Matriarch Miranda V on 28 February 2012, a matriarchal conclave elected Membertou as her successor on 14 June. She chose Salome as her matriarchal name. Salome is the youngest Matriarch ever elected, the first from the "New World", and the first non-Varkan Matriarch since the "Continent 1" Makvala in 1124, 886 years earlier.

Popular mainstream media frequently portray Matriarch Salome either as a feminist inspiration with strong Armazist values. Armazia has claimed that Western news outlets often seek to portray her message with an increased dramatic tone to make her sound uncompromising and even unscrupulous, taking her words out of context and focusing on the sensational messages.

Quotes of Salome[edit | edit source]
“ | The Varkans came to the New World and didn't wage war unless they deemed it necessary to defend themselves, their faith or their interests. Varkan settlers had no interest whatsoever in conquest and assimilation of aboriginal tribes. In their view, we were all servants of Dedamitsaze and lived on Her good will. They didn't have this sentiment of superiority and this fever for "civilizing savages" so many other CONTINENT 2 nations had. All they did was discuss with native tribes, establish trade, and if they saw their way of living and religion were similar or at least in accordance with basic Armazist values, they tried to show that they believed the same things and should work together, help each other as servants of Dedamitsaze. If that wasn't the case, however, if what they saw wasn't in accordance with Armazist values, they didn't hold any relation with these tribes or at times waged war. It wasn't uncommon to see Varkan settlers, white skins among brown skins, fighting alongside aboriginal tribes against CONTINENT 2 settlers of the Christian faith mostly. Varkans didn't force their beliefs on anyone. Varkans didn't assimilate and abused aboriginals in the New World. They didn't kidnap children from their families to "bleach" them into good civilized Christians. | ” |

“ | Mze makes love to me every morning when I go outside, caressing my face with His warmth, lighting my world with His rays. | ” |
—Salome on 2011 in The Citadel |
“ | You ask me if it is all right to kill in the name of a religion. Yes, yes it is, if it is just; not if you are misguided by your impulses or your false religion. I do not promote violence to solve conflicts, even metaphysical ones involving the Gods. Dialogue will always be preferable to violence, but in extreme cases, killing is justifiable, as last resort. Armazism is a religion of harmony with the Gods, as a natural order. Such extreme measures should never be taken unless that harmony is seriously threatened or affected by some, in any case they should be stopped. Should we take their lives and give them back to Armazi? If their crime is too great and their soul unable to be enlightened, I say yes. | ” |

Quotes about Salome[edit | edit source]
“ | I hope she [Salome] doesn't become Matriarch one day. I personally think she should be more reasonable, but this kind of comments have been common with Matriarchs and Senators forever, so I'm not really surprised, just clearly annoyed as you can see. | ” |
—President Avalishvili, 24 June 2005 in Klow |
“ | People take different roads seeking fulfillment and happiness. Just because they're not on your [Salome] road doesn't mean they've gotten lost. | ” |
—Dalai Lama XIV, 13 May 2011 in The Citadel |
“ | She [Salome] is one of the best Matriarch The Citadel has ever elected, and I say that only two years after her election. It tells something. | ” |
—President Latso, 21 December 2012 in Klow |
